Planner for Teacher Plus magazine

An academic year planner for teachers I just did for the Teacher Plus magazine’s May-June 2010 issue. Not a style I have worked with much at all, but much of it was fun. The illustrations are in pen and colour pencil.

Subterranean

For Illustration Friday‘s theme ‘Subterranean’. My first attempt at digital vector illustration. There is much to learn!

I scanned in a quick sketch I’d made using a marker, vectorised it on Illustrator, then added the ‘subterranean’ parts of the picture using the brush tool, and coloured it in.

I like this word subterranean :).

Representing materials and textures using different, sometimes unlikely media is a challenge I find very interesting. In little ways I like to push the expressive capacity of the medium I’m using. How much can one make just a simple pen or a pencil say?
